Things I hate to love about J

As promised, here's a post about the mystery man to most of you (unless you know me in real life. Then you hear about him 24/7).

What better way to get to know him than to get to know him like I know him? :]

Things I hate to love about J

This picture of him makes me laugh every time I see it. And if he doesn't like it, he shouldn't have it on Facebook. I'm just sayin'.

How he feels compelled to shower every morning, even if he showered the night before and did nothing but sleep and wake up. Somehow showering energizes him. I couldn’t fathom this until one day I told him not to shower because we were in a rush. I watched as in a mere 20 minutes his body literally shut down and wasn’t revived until water touched his skin. It was remarkable.

His refusal to eat collard greens even though he knows damn well that I caught him eating them at a restaurant. Apparently what he meant to say is he didn’t eat my family’s collard greens. Oh, okay.

How eerily similar our grandmothers are. They look nothing alike but my grandmother is the Jamaican-Methodist-shopaholic equivalent to his cute, Jewish, always-wearing-pink grandmother. It’s very interesting to see how two women who have never met can have such a similar impact on their first grandchildren’s lives. There are times when his grandmother talks and I swear it’s like my grandmother possessed her body. Grandma, is that you?

How he loves me in sweatpants, hair tied, chillin’ with no make-up on. Or in my case - pink super woman pajamas, glasses, and a headscarf. I hate when he invites people in with me looking like I just woke up, but he doesn’t think it’s a big deal because "I’m beautiful no matter what" – yadda, yadda, yadda. I’m no stranger to Vicki’s Secret when I need to be but he has seen me looking craaaaazy and I’ll admit to that. My whole thing is – as long as it’s not a habit, let me live. Thank you. And he does.

Him taking up SO MUCH space in bed. This isn’t the biggest deal because I like that he’s 6’3, but there are times when I forget that he’s a person with feelings and I want to fight him and throw him overboard. Somebody’s gotta go. . .

His Football Sundays. HUSH! I want no backlash for this. Everyone knows that Sundays are reserved for WE Weddings, The Kardashians and True Blood! But even though I’ve always been one of those girls who likes the team whose uniforms are the prettiest (as in, with the least color clashing), I appreciate him for being so determined to keep this tradition alive with his friends and brothers. I even learned a thing or two about how great of a game football is, and he trained me to recite Mark Sanchez as my favorite player on the Jets – but I will always be a Giants girl thanks to my dad.

Ask Me Anything & Much thanks and love!

Some of you have upwards of 500 followers but listen, when you originally weren't expecting anyone to be interested in your blog thoughts besides your boyfriend, 100 means something. Something big.

I just want to dedicate this update to allllllll you fabulous people who have read (I mean really read, not skimmed. Lazy asses :P) my blog since I started giving it the attention it deserved back in June. I've had over 10,000 hits (I knowwwww, I suck for not mentioning that before) and a ton of comments that I truly appreciate. I know how great of a feeling it is to see comments that show someone really took something away from your blog and well . . thanks :]

I think every writer's fear is that they're thought of as frauds who are incapable of properly expressing their creativity - or in other words, are bad writers - but this blog is my outlet to write what I please and I love that you guys love it too.

I'd also like to say thanks to Woody and Shane for this pretty bad-ass looking "Blog on Fire" award. .
. . .and tag 10 others in it as well!

Now normally I'm supposed to post 7 facts about me, but eh. . .I did like 14 here. So INSTEAD, I'm gunna allow you all to Ask Me Anything.

Leave your questions as comments and I'll be happy to answer them :]

Holla. It's my birthday!

*Busts a Dougie*

Yes, you've heard (read?) correctly. The day has arrived.
I know I've talked about celebrating here and here, way beforehand, and I've confused a lot of you but THIS IS LEGIT. July 27th, 2011 is here and I'm 22 years old!

To commemorate this new year in my life and start my countdown to 30 (wahhh! :(), aside from chronicling the f.cktivities I partake in (which will be outlined in further detail after this weekend), I'd like to share my 22nd year of wisdom with all of you. Some of you might have already realized these things at a younger age or still haven't realized it yourself, but I'm sharing it anyway.

Life has a way of re-routing your plans and to enjoy it to the fullest, you just have to go with it. Everything will work itself out. Don't be afraid of new experiences and new people and certainly don't dwell on old things. Those things happen to make you a better person today.

So there ya have it. Gotta take my own advice!

Also, I wanted to shout out all of you guys for being such awesome followers once again. I'm like, 5 followers away from 100 and I've only been actively updating this blog for like a month. I love that you guys care enough to read what I write or even to comment on anything. Loves it. *throws glitter everywhere*

Ohh, and special shout out to Rose and Miss Sassy Pants for sharing this birthday with me! I don't want to toot my own horn, but I'm inclined to believe that Leos born on July 27th are made from some of the best stuff on earth because everyone I met with my birthday is so awesome, it's almost not fair.

I don't know what to say. . :]

This has been quite the eventful weekend for me for two reasons:

1.) I can actually HANG. I went out three nights in a row on my staycation (you'll hear about it later), dabbled in alcohol and did NOT lose consciousness or my sense of self-worth. It was fabulous, I got to see people I haven't seen in ages and pretend for a little while that I was a real adult.

2.) I feel poppin' because I got five blogger awards! Haha, my first awards, at that. Oh! And I won a giveaway from this blog. I'm hype. Not gunna lie. *Dougies*

Lots of love and tons of hugs to:

This is the first time I'm doing this so hopefully it's done right!
For this award I had to. . .

Post 7 random things about yourself:
I'm 5'7 and hoping I don't grow anymore. I want a tattoo at the end of the summer. I love wearing high heels, but wish I had more. I can't go into Forever 21 without purchasing something. I'm in a Latina-founded sorority. I'm allergic to orange juice, not oranges though. I can understand Spanish when spoken to me, but that's about as far as it goes.

At last, a trend I can get down with

What's all the hype about?
Featuring Circle Contacts

Finally!

I knew that one day having big, beautiful, dove-like, cartoony, exaggerated eyes would be the "in" thing. I knew myself and my fellow baby-doll eyed people would get their day. Apparently, this day came a while ago and I'm just now finding out about it. Damn shame.
The big circular lenses give the appearance of larger eyes and can be purchased for $20 online (plus shipping and handling, of course). People seem to think that GaGa brought it to America with her 'Bad Romance' video, but they've been popular ever since people first started getting into anime.

Tutorial/News-ish video.

I'd like to take this time to personally say SUCK IT to those in my past who have told me that my eyes look like something along the lines of "a deer in headlights." Hmph.

Disclaimer: If you haven't already figured it out, I do not wear these contact lenses. Au natural, baby. But if you do decide to wear them, be aware that they pose the same risks as regular contact lenses and are not FDA-approved. Have fun now.

Meet Karma: She's rubber, and you're glue

I’ve always been a firm believer in documenting important life events, because even if no one else would care to read it, later it’ll be there for you. Just in case you forget how something felt at the time or what someone said (and how they said it). Sometimes it’s good to have that reference.

I’m grateful to have a lot of things written down and archived for future reference. It’s helped me realize how much I’ve grown, and in some ways, stayed the same since certain events happened in my life. It’s really been a beautiful journey, all in all. The good and the bad things that I’ve done as well as the good and bad things that have happened to me were somehow cosmically intertwined and ended up meaning something. They’ve all happened for some greater reason than what I could recognize at the time, and now I'm understanding it a little more. Everyday is a lesson.

There was a time when I felt that I had done something so karmically wrong (that I still feel guilty for to this day, fyi) in my past that something I was going through at the time had to be a result of a that. I convinced myself that this was the Universe’s/God’s way of saying “You done f-cked up now.”

Looking back on that now, I see it wasn’t that serious, and that what happened to me was nowhere near equivalent to what I had done. I saw that it had happened to a lot of people. I saw that it could have been a lot worse. The Boomerang Theory to me has some truth to it, and somehow I was going to get what was coming to me, and it’d only be fair. Everyone is, if they haven’t already.

Just always remember to give out what you want in return. You may not get it right away, but somehow it will always come back around to you. Even if you’re experiencing something painful – some betrayal or some loss – keep in mind that retaliating is your way of getting back at that situation, but not the way of the greater good. You don’t have to believe in God to see where I’m coming from – just believe that there is something omnipotent and far bigger than you. Good things happen to good people, eventually, and that’s the stuff worth waiting for.

Right now I feel as if the years of good I’ve done have come back to me because this place.

Right now.

This ish right here? This is a good feeling. Happiest I’ve been in a while, I’d say.

I hope you all are getting what’s coming to you :) Whether it’s good or bad - it will pass, and the cycle will continue. For the future, learn from this and give out what you want to get back.
