You know you're a journalist when

Because I love all my writer-types out there. . .

Some of these are mine and some I found online. All made me smile.

• You can spend an unspecified amount of time in Starbucks sipping on the same "tall", overpriced drink. . .as long as they don't come at you for using their Wi-fi to update your blog, write your article, etc.

• While you may not agree with their methods of reaching success, you can appreciate the journalistic endeavors of the stars in the Devil Wears Prada, How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Sex and The City and yes - even Harriet The Spy. You understand the necessity of her notebook remaining confidential.

• Deadlines are of the utmost importance to you. In fact, you happen to work your best when you're only allotted a finite amount of time to produce something extraordinary.

• It drives you CRAZY when people don't know the difference between "too", "to", and "two." In fact, you're genuinely hurt when they misspell anything and don't correct it, and have to hold back from voicing it for fear of being "that guy."

• When you really start writing you go somewhere within yourself and sometimes, when you come out, days have passed, babies have been born, and pets have gone unfed.

• You have a deep appreciation for Apple Products - not all, but some. If only you could afford them.

• Whenever you're sending anything serious - email, text, whatever - you re-read it at least twice, checking for any spelling/mistakes or more importantly, if you can think of better "25-cent" word choices.

• You consult either of these books for those quarter words:

*Cough*Iownboth*cough*

• You're able to hold a conversation on just about any topic for at least 10 minutes from things floating around in your brain from pass research.

• You understand that Google does not = research. Not completely, anyway.

• You consider yourself fluent in sarcasm. To you it is indeed a language that not many people can decipher, but those who can are awesome in your book.

• You love a good quote. In fact, you can center a whole story around a quote if need be.

• Post-its help keep you sane.

Am I missing any? Let me know :]

  1. I'm such a writer sometimes, not as much as I used to be, but I am that girl who posts statuses about my confusion with people not knowing how to spell. Like how hard is it to spell definitely? Honestly, I'm that girl who gets turned on by a guy who can spell oh and it drives me bonkers when people misspell on an iPhone. There's NO excuse, autocorrect will fix that mess.

    Anyways! lol

  2. Lol Nhya, I guess this makes me a pseudo journalist huh? For I can relate to so many of these things you listed hahaha High five on going nuts when people misspell (or misuse?) the words too, to and two. And yes, I can make an essay on a quote too, of course when I'm inspired. However, I did encounter one hitch... the closest thing I have to an Apple product is a 4y.o. iPod lmao!

And oh yes, people who are gifted with the art of sarcasm are awesome in my book. They're the elite of all elites to me ^.~

    Cheers,

LOL, LET ME GUESS, YOU WROTE THIS:
    • When you really start writing you go somewhere within yourself and sometimes, when you come out, days have passed, babies have been born, and pets have gone unfed.

I'm so done with you, and this friendship has now ended! LOL. Love this post! Wish I could relate, but I'm not a jounralist -- but I do think I am! ;] Wait, does that count?

  8. haha, this post is so cool because all of your points are very true. I almost always check and then re-check emails before I send them. And I need to get those books. And "to" and "too" is such a good point, that gets mixed up all the time. You're a great writer btw. Following you now

  9. Haha I love this so much. As a journalism minor/blogger, a lot of the points resonate. Good job digging that up (and I love the Devil Wears Prada animations!).

  12. I don't really consider myself a journalist, but I definitely agree with the points you make. I really do appreciate the endeavors of journalists they show in films, I'm sooo glad you mentioned Harriet the Spy. What a fantastic fucking movie. I always dreamt about being her when I was a little nug.

  14. Loved reading this! I will not go so far as to say that I've never been guilty myself, but I've been told many times that I tend to be "that guy". Although, I tend to be a better writer than I a talker. I have to work on that haha. This post made me smile for sure!

  15. So I do agree completely with the 'to, too, and two' craziness. And I can't have a single error in my texts/emails, because it drives me crazy.

And I hate when others (read: 99% of everyone I've ever met) spell wrong, or have bad grammar just because they're typing.

Oh, and I'm sure this is just a test for people like me, but here's a copied sentence from this post:

You're able to hold a conversation on just about any topic for at least 10 minutes from things floating around in your brain from pass research.

I'm sure you meant 'past', not 'pass'. I'm sorry, I had to. I absolutely love the books and the post itself though.

  18. Whether or not one is a journalist I see a lot of truth in this. I use Post-Its like crazy during busy days at work...even at home when I'm doing homework. They're miracle pieces of paper. Also, I definitely work best under pressure. After 5 years in college I've come to see that procrastination isn't necessarily a bad thing. The pressure is more of a...motivating factor. Haha.
